Lonnie A. Washington graduated from Alabama State University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in English and from Samford University's Cumberland School of Law with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1991.  He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1992.  Upon graduation, he worked as Assistant District Attorney for Jefferson County Alabama.  He worked in this capacity from 1993- 1996. 

Attorney Washington currently serves as a judge pro-tem in the Birmingham Municipal Court and in the cities of Midfield, Fairfield adn Bessemer.

In 2001, Lonnie co-founded Washington, Lloyd & Henderson, PC, and has since concentrated on public interest litigation, mass tort, estate planning, and social security and veteran's claims.

Lonnie is a member of the National Organization of Veterans Advocates, a 2007 Associate Member of the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives.

Since 2009, Attorney Lonnie A. Washington, Sr.has provided free legal services in the area of estate planning, such as wills, guardianships, conservatorships and advanced care directives to the Birmingham and Bessemer Police Departments, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, and Birmingham and Bessemer Fire Departments.

In addition to providing free legal services to emergency responders, Attorney Washington has been providing free legal services in the area of estate planning to inner-city and urban churches in the Jefferson County Alabama area.

In 2010, Attorney Washington was selected selected to serve as General Counsel to the following religious bodies:

  • The Alabama State Baptist Convention, which is the state's largest denomination of African-American baptists
  • Mount Pilgrim District Baptist Association*
  • Jefferson County District Baptist Association*
  • The Peace Baptist District Association*
  • The Birmingham Ministerial Conference, which is an organization of African-American ministers who meet weekly to address the social, economic and political concerns of their communities.

*These organizations are the three largest African American Baptist associations in Jefferson County, Alabama

In the aforementioned capacity, Attorney Washington lectures weekly on non-profit corporate governance, ethics, estate taxation, estate planning of wills, powers of attorney, and living wills to the pastors, leaders and members of those bodies.

In 2011, Attorney Washington was awarded the outstanding community service award by the Birmingham Metro Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Birmingham Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) through the representation of pre-screened inner city and low income individuals.

In 2011, Attorney Washington was selected to serve as a member of the Jefferson County Personnel Board.
